# Why Tonic Notes exists

Tonic Notes began with a mother in the corner of a violin lesson, writing down what the teacher said. This page is the founder's account of that, and of what the company is building from it.

## The story

- Every week the founder's mother sat in the corner of the violin lesson with a notebook, writing down what the teacher said and circling the passages that needed work. That notebook is what made the practice week work.
- The lesson is where music is taught; the week after is where it is learned. Most of what a teacher gives in an hour is gone by Friday.
- Musicians deserve a companion that keeps all of it: every instruction, every correction, every week of progress, and understands more of your playing the longer you use it.
